Ethical Kids Clothing: Little Green Radicals
17th April 2022
Little Green Radicals
Established in 2005, Little Green Radicals was created with the mission of creating beautiful children’s clothing. However, for founder Nick Pecorelli, it was important that every item was made the right way; ethically, organically and Fairtrade. At the core of the company, is the desire to constantly improve, from their products to their treatment of staff, and their impact on the environment. Little Green Radicals aims to be at the forefront of an ethical fashion revolution.

How does Fairtrade benefit farmers?
Little Green Radicals became one of the first brands in the UK to use certified organic Fairtrade cotton. Using Fairtrade products has social, economic and environmental benefits.
Economic
Fairtrade farmers are paid a minimum price of their products.
Farmers receive a Fairtrade premium – an additional sum of money that goes into a communal fund for the farmers to spend as they see fit.
Investment, organic training and knowledge sharing leads to increased yields and better-quality crops.
Environment
Fairtrade sets targets to protect the environment, such as carbon reduction and improved water management.
Training is provided so farmers can adopt environmentally friendly practices.
Fairtrade can help financially to educate about climate change and sustainability.
Social
Farmers that work through a cooperative have more power to negotiate better prices for their products.
Fairtrade Standards are designed to prevent gender inequality.
The Fairtrade premium is to benefit the community e.g., to build a school
Better for your child.
Better for the farmers.
Better for the planet.
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is grown without the use of harsh chemicals such as pesticides. Pesticides can break down the cotton fibres, meaning Little Green Radicals’ products are more durable and long lasting as a result. As the cotton is toxin free, Little Green Radicals’ products are great for children with sensitive skin or eczema. Instead, pest traps, alongside bugs that are beneficial to the crop and the environment are used to remove any unwanted visitors. Natural fertilisers and manure, in addition to sensible crop rotation, ensures soils are nutrient rich. The removal of hazardous pesticides and fertilisers benefits the environment as rivers, lakes and other water sources are cleaner, and greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by up to 46%.
Organic Farming
Pesticides are harmful to human health. However, organic production gives farmers and their families a much safer environment to work and live in. Furthermore, organic farmers can grow different crops alongside their cotton, which can provide another source of income and an accessible and diverse food supply for their community. Organic cotton farmers normally work together in cooperatives so share knowledge and support one another. Fairtrade standards prohibit the use of genetically modified seeds; thus, farmers save their seeds year after year and work with the environment in a long-term, sustainable way.
Printing
Many of Little Green Radicals’ products are screen printed, meaning a skilled printer hand paints every single colour onto the fabric, which is not an easy task when printing multi-colour rainbow designs!
